MARTIN BURTON and the SOULMEN
Martin Burton was the founder member of 80's recording and club band The Gents who, throughout that decade were THE biggest name on the WMC Scene. Martin was responsible for 90% of the recorded output of the band (two albums and a dozen or so singles) as well as being the Bass player and Lead Vocalist. By the end of the 80's however, the band split to pursue other projects. It was at this time that Martin formed Lip Service, initially a five piece act including three girls, and one of the very first to use pre-recorded backing (frowned upon at the time but now of course widely accepted as the norm). After a successful seven or eight years working regularly on the Club/Cabaret circuit Martin decided to leave the business to give song writing and recording one last shot before he became too old. Alas, as in the earlier days that elusive "big break" never came which brings us nicely to The Soul Men. 1999/2000 saw Martin looking to get back into full time singing and seeing the "new" trend for vocal groups in the style of the early Soul/Motown/Doo -Wop tradition He decided that this was the way to go. The Soul Men consist of four guys each capable of taking the role of Lead Vocalist/Front Man. They perform the slick dance routines associated with the genre, and can all harmonise perfectly together. The Band are always dressed impeccably and put on a show that can be genuinely described as second-to-none. Featured Artistes include; The Drifters, The Temptations, The Four Tops, Stevie Wonder, Sam Cooke, Dobie Gray, The Four Seasons, Bill withers, Sam and Dave, The Trammps, The O'Jays, etc, etc, etc
